Voxel Mech Head 2: RX-78-2 Gundam

Going with a classic here for Voxel Mech Head 2. Here is the RX-78-2 Gundam from the original Mobile Suite Gundam.

This prototype Mobile Suit was created by the Earth Federation Forces on Side 7 in UC 0079. Amuro Ray piloted the RX-78-2 Gundam in the One Year War against the Principality of Zeon. It would be one of the first Mobile Suits to make use of Beam Weaponry. It also served as the basis for Mass Production of the RGM-79 GM.

Since my recently renewed interest in Gundam and Gunpla, I have come to realize that I am primarily a fan of anything from the original Universal Century. I seem to care more about it's designs and I think it is because of the amount of detail packed into the UC Timeline. There is extensive information about the history and construction of each Mobile Suit model. There is also comprehensive data on almost all combat operations during each point in the timeline. Love me some Gundam!

Voxel Mech Head 1: VF-1D Valkyrie

After Ben Weatherall (Crossy Road)  followed me on Twitter the other day, and after seeing a few other fellow artists  at UbiTor  create some cool stuff in Qubicle 2.0, I decided to fire it up and try my hand at some Voxel Art. I thought making some Mech heads might be interesting to re-create with Voxels.

My first attempt here is from one of my favorite properties, Super Dimensional Fortress Macross.  This is the VF-1D Valkyrie, a two-seater variant of the VF-1 Variable Fighter. These machines were operated by UN Spacy during Space War I against the Zentradi.

The VF-1 was created by the renowned Japanese mecha designer, Shoji Kawamori. He was also responsible for many famous designs featured in Escaflowne, Ghost in the Shell, Mobile Suite Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, among many others.

Stay tuned for more Voxel Art, and hopefully more Mecha heads!
